Heya! As of writing this, I just posted the Sigilyph review, so check it out! This unholy devourer of souls is Runerigus, the Grudge pokemon. This pokemon is from the most recent games, so I haven’t had to much time to get used to it, but I know some!

As always, lore first. Runerigus has some disturbing info surrounding it. It is said that a Yamask can be possessed by a fragment of the Runerigus, and be compelled to hunt for its complete body. Once the unfortunate pokemon discovers the full painting, its very soul is absorbed into the painting’s cursed inscription, breathing foul unlife into it. It’s my personal headcannon that it was painted using the blood of the deceased. It is also said that if you look at runerigus for long enough, you will see the phantasms and shadows of the most traumatic experience of your life behind the foul specter.

For style, it has a lot of it. At first, it appears to be a weird painting, but then in battle, it disassembles and forms a weird rock ghost with limbs made of shadow. It can unleash a horrible curse and is also inspired by Viking Runes. It is a very simple sort of creepy cool, and I couldn’t approve more.

For battle prowess, it is pretty good. With a pretty decent 483 base stat total, it’s no slouch in terms of stats. It has the unique ability Wandering Spirit, a twist on normal Yamask’s Mummy ability. When a pokemon makes contact with Runerigus, the Runerigus steals the foe’s ability, leaving the victim with Wandering Spirit for their ability instead. It also has massive defensive stats, making it a good wall. It has decent Attack as well, enabling for its Earthquakes and Shadow Claws to lay down a good amount of oomph. It has a admittedly pretty bad defensive type of Ghost/Ground, and a pitiful 58 hp stat, so it can only absorb so many hits.

For lore, it gets an 8 out of 10, since it’s pretty good for a basic pokemon. For style, it’s an easy 8 out of 10, as it is a very simple creepy cool. For battle prowess, it gets a 7 out of 10 as it is good in most departments, but it’s bad defensive type and bad hp limit it. Overall, for my personal enjoyment of the pokemon, it gets a solid 7 out of 10. It’s nothing too remarkable, but it’s very good, and I like it a lot. It’s also worth noting that this is both the first regional variant we talk about and the first regional evolution we talk about. Regional variants wer eintroduced in generation 7, Sun and Moon. In cirtain regions, pokemon adapted different;y, resulting in new forms. In generation 8, Sword and Shield, regional evolutions were introduced. Curtain regional variant pokemon can evolve into entirely new pokemon. The list is as follows: Mr. Mime into Mr. Rime, Yamask into Runerigus, Farfetch’d into Sirfetch’d, Meowth into Perrserker, Linoone into Obstagoon, and Corsola into Cursola. Anyways, see you next time!
